If some gemstone really has a really fascinating past, it’s none other than Peridot that has been serving in many various well-known civilizations and cultures for quite some time. Spiritual leaders and religious head used periodt for many different purposes and regarded that stone for its exceptional and inspiring healing powers. Peridot used to mine even in the days way back 1500BC as some descriptions about this gemstones have been found on pre-historic dens’ walls. Though the mention of this gemstone has been done in many different manuscripts of old civilizations, in ancient Egypt we find a lot of tales related to this stones. Many people believe that Cleopatra’s well-known emeralds were peridots in actual, but they were reckoned emeralds at that time.

It’s true that history of peridot is quite different from almost all well-known gemstones. Aside from diamonds and peridots, almost all well known gemstones form in the crust of the earth and that is the thing which makes these stones quite different from others. Peridot and diamonds are two those gemstones that form much deeper in the earth and they come up because of volcanic or tectonic activity.

In ancient world, Topazos Island was the main source of peridot, the stone was also abundantly found at St. John’s Island in the Egyptian Red Sea. The mention of this stone is also found in the history of Pliny.

In Zabargad this stone has been ceaselessly mined for more than 3500 years, but it is also interesting to note that exact location of that island was rediscovered in 1905 after quite a long, long time. This small island remains under fog throughout the year.

But after the Second World War, mining came to an end on this island. These days there are five sources where this gemstones, lapis lazuli tiles comes from that are found in Burma, Pakistan and Afghanistan. This stone is also mined in New Mexico and Arizona, but the stone is not the same exceptional quality, as it is Pakistan or some other places.

The stone has somewhat an everlasting mystical reputation and is being used as talisman for quite some time. Its magical powers are used to ward off anxiety, and men become more articulate. It is also believed that the stone proves quite effective to promote success in marriage and relationships.

It existed before time, well this is what said about this as old as hills stone. Lapis lazuli has seen generation after generation of the humans on the earth, and humans have also been making the most of it old seer to awaken their latent energies and bring harmony and peace in their lives. The remnants of this stone have been found in almost all the well-known civilizations of the world, especially, in Mesopotamians and Egyptians, the stone was prized quite high. People often seemed to show high reverence to lapis lazuli and it was reckoned a nice stone to bring light, truth and wisdom in the life of wearer.

Lapis lazuli is quite well known as a spiritual tool in which the blue color can be seen at its best, just like many other colors, blue also cast some impacts on humans and the stone which features the best of the blue will definitely give all of it which usually associated with it. Aside from its healing powers, the stone was used for many other purposes in dyes, paints and eye shadow.

There are only two crystals in the mineral kingdom that surface or penetrate instead of healing, and lapis lazuli is one of these two crystals. It is said that lapis lazuli proves the best when it is placed in the middle of the forehead for the healing purposes. As this location is called third eye and when lapis is placed here, it proves quite effective to penetrate illusions and limited beliefs that serve as a hurdle in the way of subconscious wisdom. These are the rays of this stone which make penetration into blocked areas easier and smooth.

Here these rays of lapis lazuli create an energetic vibration and awaken the creative source of the mind which leads to self-empowerment and more awareness. This increased self-awareness inspired ideas, intuitive hunches etc.

Lapis lazuli is not only helpful to surface clear insight, but it is also proving quite effective to control certain actions of the wearer. This stone can bring to light if there is some emotional wounds that requires to be healed or released. All one needs to do is to allow its blue ray to take you into the depths of your subconscious and release its latent potential that can help you to solve many riddles of your surrounding.

Because of its matchless beauty and associated powers, this royal blue stone has been widely used for various purposes in almost all the well-known human civilizations. Babylonians, Egyptians, Chinese, Romans, Indians and many others used that stone even thousands of years back.

The stone was also reckoned as sapphire in ancient times, and aside from jewelry and healing purposes, the stone was widely used in various forms for decorative purposes. The remnants of lapis lazuli tiles can still be seen in many ancient tombs in Egypt, Syria, Iran and Iraq.

It is said that Cleopatra used pulverized lapis lazuli as eyeshade, and similarly many other renowned personalities of different ages have been using that stone for different purposes, but mainly for its healing powers. Lapis lazuli is known as the stone of truth and friendship. It brings harmony and peace in the life of the wearer and similarly, there are many other powers which are associated with that stone.

No doubt, the stone which has been used in them came from the mines in northern Afghanistan.

Lapis lazuli with its matchless beauty and unique blue color is also known as the stone of the sky as well as a royal stone that has been serving the royals even in their tombs.

Lapis lazuli is considered quite effective to increase virility, mental clarity, calmness and tranquility in the lives of the wearers and that’s why a large number of lecturers, teachers and speakers have been wearing this stone to be more focused and composed in their everyday routine to achieve their desired objects. Lapis lazuli is also considered very effective to get rid of depression and it can promote spirituality in those who are looking for something really effective in this connection. One can gain exceptional powers in mediation when wearing this stone.

Lapis for meditation

Many people are of the view that the benefits of wearing this stone are endless, and they also associate some other benefits with it including improvement in psychics’ abilities, treating melancholy and some types of fever. It has also been found effective in relieving pain and melancholy.

Catholic rosary beads, Christian cross, Catholic rosary beads and rabbit foot are some widely used amulets these days, and it has been observed that now people’s preferences have changed a lot in this connection. Now there are only few who look for things like lapis lazuli or some other such stone to get succeeded in their various purposes and contrarily these stones have been replaced by some other metallic stuff and tattoos that are reckon quite effective to keep evil spirits away and enhance mental and physical capabilities.

But still there are many who seem to believe in the healing powers of different precious and semi precious gemstones to make the most of their associated powers and get their desired set objects that need enhanced powers and these are their fortune bringing gemstones which can provide this power to them.

Amethyst, Quartz, lapis lazuli, rubies and sapphire are some gemstones that are quite well known for their healing and meditating powers. These stones are used in beads, necklaces, rings and other such stuff that can be easily worn. All these stones have their specific spiritual and healing properties and they have been considered precious almost throughout all the ages of human civilizations.

When it comes to healing and meditating powers of these stones, Lapis lazuli or the blue stone seems to have par excellence in almost each and every aspect. The healing and mediating powers of lapis lazuli have been associated with it for centuries, and even today there are considerable number of people who believe in the amazing healing and meditating powers of this stone.

These people are of the view that lapis lazuli has the powers to give them the ability of clear thinking and better meditation. But the question rises whether Lapis lazuli really has such powers or it is nothing but superstitions and wrong beliefs of these people. Well, on scientific basis, it is said that lapis lazuli doesn’t have any such power, but those who are not willing to accept that scientific statement say that there are lots of such things as can’t be proven scientifically, but these things exist and the same is true about the healing and meditating powers of lapis lazuli.

Lapis lazuli was widely used in different ornaments and amulets by the ancient Egyptians and similarly Babylonians and Assyrians use this stone for seals. Some pieces of jewelry that were 3300 old also found in Naqada and in some parts of Afghanistan as well. It is said that Cleopatra used pulverized form of this stone as eyesshadow.

It has been described in chapter 140th of the Book of the Dead, when the stone is used in round shape jutted in gold, this great amulet can really give the wearers some extra-ordinary powers.

Nearly more than 6000 nice looking lapis lazuli statuettes of different objects like birds, beads, rodents, deer, dishes and cylinder seals were found in the Ur Sumerian tombs. It is said these objects were brought there from northern Afghanistan.

The stone was also considered a form of sapphire in old days and different prominent personalities like kings, queens and spiritual heads reckoned it a nice stone to express royal splendor and glory.

In Romans the lapis lazuli was considered a powerful stone to intensify sexual desires and they often used that stone to be sexually potent. In some other civilizations of the world, lapis lazuli was regarded as the stone of friendship, love and tranquility.

In Middle Ages, this concept was in rife that the stone had the power to keep arms and legs strong and healthy and keep the soul free of fears, errors and envy. Similarly, the stone was also used for medicinal purposes and given to the patients with fever, cramps, boils and ulcers. It was also used in paintings for rich deep blue color.

When it comes to modern day use of this stone with splendid past, one thing is easily observable that it doesn’t have the same glory and reverence that given to it in the past. No doubt, there are still many who believe in the healing power of this stone, but mostly it’s being used for decorative purposes and jewelry these days. These days lapis lazuli tiles are used for interior decoration of homes. It can be said that now some other stones serve as the first preference of a large number of stone lovers, but still lapis lazuli is the stone that gives blue its true shade. No doubt, in this stone we can see blue at its best.

No doubt most of gemstones are quite durable but still the require some care. By following these general rules you can save your gemstones for generations and with the same luster as they were on the day when you bought them.

The first and foremost rule is to keep the gemstones clean. Usually, in rings soap and dust collect behind the stone and the best way to clean it is soaking it in water and applies a mild soap and a soft toothbrush can also be used in this connection.

The gemstones which are considered the hardest may become vulnerable to breakage if they are included something that makes the crystal structure cracked.

Diamonds are counted as the hardest but still they shatter in to pieces if a well-placed blow is offered. Rubies and sapphire too are the toughest but they also face the similar fate if the right below at right place is given to them.

Ultrasonic cleaner is not a right choice for your gem and you must consider a lot before putting gems in it. This can be useful for rubies, diamonds and sapphires but not for many other gems and must leave it whenever you are in doubt. A large number of diamonds, rubies and sapphires that are single crystal gems can be cleaned with a touch of ammonia in water.

Intensive care is required for opaque gemstones like lapis lazuli, malachite and turquoise and you must avoid ultrasonic cleaner and ammonia or some other chemical solution to apply on them. You can just use a moist cloth to clean these gems.

As these materials are mostly rocks and that is why these materials need more care than transparent gemstones. You may have observed when rock is put in water, it begins to absorb water and gets moist but when some gemstone is consisted of a single crystal, it can’t absorb water as there is no room in them that allows water to enter in them.

Intensive care is required to keep opals and they are avoided from ultrasonic, ammonia, heat and strong light that may dry out its water.

Many organic gems including pearls, amber, and coral should be cleaned just with a moist cloth. As these gems have an organic nature, they are prone to absorbing moisture and often are soft. The gemstone must be kept away from different chemicals that are found hairspray, cosmetics or in perfumes.

You must keep your gemstones in different small pouches separately in the same or different jewelry boxes. The different items of gold, silver or platinum can scratch the gems and make them spoil.

Lapis Lazuli is one of those gemstones as have a long and romantic history. Lapis Lazuli is found at many places ion the world but the best form of it comes from a northern Afghanistan province known as Badakhshan and in this province lapis lazuli has been mined for more than 6000 years regularly.

Lapis lazuli was used as a gemstone material even many thousands years back. Assyrians and Babylonians used it for cylinder seals while ancient Egyptian used it for sacred slabs and amulets. According to many historians, pulverized lapis was used as an eye shadow by Cleopatra. It was also used in buildings and statues, beads, jewelry and many other things.

During the medieval period, powdered lapis was used in paintings for a blue hue known as ultramarine. But in the early 19th century the synthetic version of ultramarine was found and the use of lapis for paintings declined.

Lapis is considered a rock instead of a mineral as it is consisted of more than one mineral and usually 3 mineral are found in the lapis and they are lazurite, calcite and pyrite. In Lazurite, sulfur is excessively found and it gives a vivid blue color to the lapis. In Calcite there is calcium carbonate that gives a whitish streak to the Lapis. Iron sulfide is found in Pyrite that is of white-gold color and lends lapis a distinctive sleek and gloss.

The lapis which considered the most expensive one has a deep blue intense in it. It has smooth and fine grained surface and has least amount of calcite. Most often the collectors prefer to those lapis as has no calcite. The calcite gives a white streak or spots to the darker blue stone. The most preferable lapis for the collectors is one that includes high amounts of pyrite but this inclusion too must be within a limit and not in too large. Pyrite has the tendency to discolor lapis at the edges.

Lapis ranges 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale and that is why it’s a rather soft stone. It also has the tendency to absorb the different other chemicals from the surroundings and that’s why it must be protected from solvents and chemicals. Most of the times Lapis are cut as cabochons or beads and used I a number of ornamental objects. These days are also many other blue gemstones but the original one is lapis. Because of it’s unique blue color it is also called the stone of the sky.
